Cuz I'm the tax man, yeah I'm the tax man. [09 Oct 2009|06:03pm]
Just back from my latest HMRC workshop, this one on setting up a limited company.

The other attendees got an extra added bonus in my knowing the forms have all changed as of October 1st, and having said forms on me and being able to identify the relevant changes.

Half of them left with my contact details. Come on AAT and approve my licensing application, so I can get business cards.

On that note I pity you fools who have not signed contracts with Death and Taxes prior to my finding out what *other* accountants charge limited companies for a year-end package! Whoa Nelly! You early adopters are getting the deal of a lifetime based on what I learned today ;)

Particularly in the field of US tax returns. As I've spent my entire life doing them, I've added them to my menu of services but didn't really expect them to be a popular item. I've recently had an inquiry and based on the fees other accountants seem to be charging I really should close up shop on anything else! Good lord these guys are charing the hourly rates of Premiership footballers! Any ex-pats you know point them my way, because I'm cheap at a third the price. Seriously.

Right. Exercise, make food, paint nails, Departure. See some of you there.

This Weekend [07 Oct 2009|03:24pm]
... I hope to recover from the cold from hell in time to DJ at Departure, the best free electronic-based club/pub night in town. This month we have a guest DJ, the illustrious [info]chris_damage, who may bust out some of his old Strength Through Joy classics, or may play something completely different. He's unpredictable that way.

Departure takes place Friday 9th October at the Elixir Bar, 162 Eversholt Street near Mornington Crescent/Euston. Free entry and open from 8pm to 1am, with pub prices and tasty bar food available.

Halloween Weekend in London [06 Oct 2009|11:28am]
Why head north? Halloween weekend is going to be awesome right here in London, with no interminable train rides, drafty cottages or awful fried breakfasts (unless you're into that kind of thing, of course)!

Friday 30th: Take your pick of Antichrist or Club Deviant, featuring the Scary Bitches live!

Saturday 31st: The mighty Project Pitchfork play the Islington Academy, with Deviant UK, The Mariana Hollow and Until I Wake, with free admission to Slimelight afterwards. (£14 adv)

Sunday 1st Nov: Come to Dingwalls for Faith and the Muse, Razor Blade Kisses and The Eternal Fall (all the way from Spain). (£12 adv)

Blacklist this Friday [29 Sep 2009|01:55pm]
This Friday night is Blacklist, the sister club to Departure featuring all manner of guitar-based gothy goodness. I'm not DJing but I will be there, and there will be a giveaway of CDs by The Eternal Fall as a blatant attempt to encourage people to buy tickets to Faith and the Muse on 1st November and come early enough to catch The Eternal Fall who are first up. :)

Blacklist takes place at The Elixir Bar, 162 Eversholt Street, Mornington Crescent, from 9pm to 1am with reduced admission to Inferno afterwards.

Just a reminder that tomorrow night is another instalment of the best free night in town, Departure at the Elixir Bar*. New Logo! [19 Aug 2009|07:20pm]
I have a nifty new logo for Death and Taxes!

I don't know how to remove the border, that will have to wait until my webmaster comes back.

Now I just need some clients, and for the existing ones to give me some work to do! :)

Good news... [17 Aug 2009|08:23pm]
I HAVE PASSED MY AAT EXAMS!

I is an accountant now!

*happy dance happy dance*

[EDIT] Gee, don't everyone congratulate me at once! This is only three years of my bloody life and my ticket to a new career where I no longer work for The Man and instead use my newfound knowledge to help fellow goths do their dreaded tax returns and generally succeed in their business endeavours. Someone out there is happy for me, surely?

LiveJournal kinda sucks these days.

Departure this Friday! [12 Aug 2009|04:11pm]
Heads up, Departure is this Friday at the Elixir Bar! If it seems too soon for Elixir Bar time again, you're probably confusing Departure with Blacklist, which was last week. Departure goes "oontz oontz". So in order to be a well-rounded Gothic/Industrial Scenester you clearly must attend both!

The Elixir Bar is at 162 Eversholt Street, Mornington Crescent. Free entry and open 8pm to 1am. Featuring Vicky, Steve, Steve Slimelight and little old me on the decks.

New (temporary) website! [04 Aug 2009|09:39pm]
Okay, it's not much but it'll do while more technically minded people (named Oscar) work on a proper website:

Death and Taxes Website

G'wan, see if it works!

In other news, yesterday I sent off all my self-employment and money laundering paperwork to HMRC so I am officially in business. And I received my final project back so once I get my exam results on the 18th, I will be Psyche MAAT!

It's all so very exciting :)
